Compassion for African Villages is the long name of the North Park Thursday Farmers’ Market’s latest agricultural addition. Located in the city of San Diego, just a few miles from the market, the farm has produced tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, kale and other crops since 2007.

Founder and farmer Tsitsi Museta, who created her organization while she was a student at SDSU, uses the proceeds from the farm to support her home village of Rundongo, Zimbabwe, a community which has been devastated by malaria, cholera and AIDS. Support from the farm has allowed the construction of two clean drinking water wells, paid the salaries of teachers at the village school, and trained members of the community in basic health care. In addition to creating jobs locally and supporting relief efforts internationally, Tsitsi grows delicious vegetables! Please visit her at the North Park Thursday Farmers’ Market soon and eat well while you do good!
