ADAMS ELEMENTARY, MEET CARLOS CARROT
The Adams Avenue Farmers' Market is taking the healthy eating message to the kids at John Adams Elementary School. The school on 35th Street is our market host and we're looking forward to upcoming events that give the students and parents a chance to learn more about the nutrition available from locally grown fruits and vegetables, including the ones grown in their school garden.
Did you know that carrots contain a virtual alphabet of vitamins along with the Vitamin A that made Bugs Bunny's eyes so bright? Sauteeing and eating the greens, or using them in a salad, adds Vitamin K to the mix.
We'll be sharing receipes with the kids, since carrots are one of the few vegetables that are even more nutritious cooked than raw. Suzie's Farm brings carrots of many colors to the Adams Avenue Farmers' Market each week. Juice them, munch them, or try this simple recipe:
Take a large bunch of carrots. Clean and cut carrots into coins, toss with olive oil, season with garlic and a little cardamom and roast at 350 degrees until caramelized. Sure to please kids of all ages.
