BERRY GOOD NEWS

Don't tell your relatives in other parts of the country, but at farms in Oceanside and Carlsbad strawberries are back. Kawano Farms brought the first ripe, red berries of the season to the market last week and they are amazing!

Ready to eat on their own, they also make a great smoothie blended with apple cider from Smit Orchards. Plate them with your favorite blue cheese from Taste Cheese, add a few roasted almonds from Hopkins AG and you have a perfect plate to go with your aperitif. Then it's on to dinner:

BERRY GOOD FISH

Toss 1 cup of quartered ripe strawberries and 1 small bunch fresh basil with Fig Balsamic from Bistro Blends. Season a halibut filet from Poppa's Fresh Fish with a little garlic and sea salt. Grill fish. Top with strawberry-basil mix. Swoon.
